Gained some personal perspetive from one disc golfer who hopes to join in competition another year. I am hearing the Clover Cliff Disc Golf course is being enjoyed by the disc golfers. We have availability at [email protected] if you may possibly venture out this next beautiful weekend to see what all the hub bub is about and see some Disc Golfing and maybe you can join in. Check it out and see if you can. We are offering again this weekend a book one and get one room with king size beds and homed cooked breakfasts each morning. The professionals will be at the Emporia Country Club this weekend, but there will be other's competing at Boyce Baumgarder Memorial at Swope Park in Cottonwood Falls and at Clover Cliff Ranch. It will for sure be a relaxing way to enjoy the weather and the charming town of Cottonwood Falls. Main Street (Broadway Street) is always a good visit for antiques and artwork or a stop at the fabric shop. Enjoy the local cuisine at Keller's Feed and Wine, Grand Central Hotel and Ad Astra in next door Strong City. You may want to bring your trail bikes as well. And, also take some time to see the Tallgrass National Preserve or enjoy the fishing at Chase County lake.

Going north at the Kansas Turnpike Cassoday exit you now get the pleasure of driving into the beautiful green hills that you have been scanning as you speed along the Turnpike. But now you can take your time and enjoy the turns. There are a couple of stopping points and overlooks especially created for your enjoyment. Each ravine and creek has tinges of purple against the brush and green hills. There a few other white blossoms as well. More and more purple as you drive along the winding Scenic 177 Byway. Gazing into the trees with hues of purple and hints of green in the upcoming canopy fill the creek bottoms. The cattle trucks are also joining in with the millions of cattle that will graze the grass this summer. The cowboys are ready at the pens waiting to release the beef to graze the greening hills. It is Spring in the Flint Hills. We look forward to hosting guests at the Spring Street Retreat. We're excited for you to enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside and this charming little town.
Besides the beautiful green hills and the pleasant temperatures the next big event coming to this area is Glass Blown Open. GBO is taking place the last week of April and is a week long disc golf tournament to play the many courses in Emporia and surrounding areas. Cottonwood Falls has the Boyce Baumgardner Memorial Course at Swope Park and Clover Cliff Ranch also has 18 tees. Professional Disc Golf Association was founded in 1976 and the movement continues to grow internationally. Just like in golf there are the drivers, short game, and putting. Thumbs up to getting people of all ages outside and playing together, increasing skills, and following some rules. Emporia will be hosting a Junior Disc Golf tournament the weekend of July 9. What a great way to enjoy the beautiful Kansas Flint Hills and get some fun, exercise and relaxation time. We would be very happy to help host any of these participants so please contact us at [email protected]. Just wanted to share some images of what I am talking about. The disc and where they are supposed to go. I have seen these around but haven't really thought about what they are. The bag to carry the disc looks like a good idea to me.
When you visit Cottonwood Falls for a weekend getaway, be sure and plan to visit Prairie PastTimes artist cooperative across the street from the most delicious steak dinners at the Grand Central. Each Friday night there is a jam session with musicians. It's very low key normally and very relaxing and enjoyable. Musical instruments are soothing to the soul. You can shop the artwork for gifts and it's a great way to wind up your week and listen to these people playing their guitars and few other instruments and singing some songs. Each Friday night is a theme. I love gospel night because Bennie will for sure be there and always sings a very special song to close his time for the evening.
